I have recently returned to my studies to enhance my orientation skills, my conditioning skills and to gain a stronger focus despite my visual restrictions. I had previously attained the rank of Blue Belt but with several years out of practice I am hard at work to regain my previous level of training.
Update: June 19, 2001: I successfully tested for and received my advanced blue belt (green stripe).
Update: October 18, 2001: I successfully tested for and received my Green Belt in a two day test which included a feature story by my hometown Newspaper.
Update: March 21, 2001: I successfully tested for and received my Advanced Green Belt (Brown Stripe).
Update: July 18, 2002: I successfully tested for and received my 3rd Degree Brown Belt!
I typically work directly with Shihan LaMattina as he handles the challenges of training of his blind student. There is an obvious emphasis on forms, breathing, Tai Chi, Jui-Jitsu and sticky palms to best address my abilities. I also frequently work with Master Sensei David LaMattina and attend a class as well as my two private lessons each week.
