What are RPGs?
Well if you are here you likely already know but for the others of you, I'll continue.
Role-Playing Games (RPG) are a
genre of games in which the player pretends to take on a personna and act out varying
adventures with the guidance of the individual running the game. Similar to
improvisational theater with a bit more creative imagination required. We gather
around a table with our dice, notes and imaginations to bring life to varying worlds and
challenges brought to us by the Game Master (GM).
Which Systems?
In the realm of table top gaming, I restrict my activities to a few systems: The age
old grandmaster of RPGs: Advanced Dungeons and Dragons deserves primary mention.
Thanks to the work of John Bacon and his Canterbury Creations, I am able to enjoy
this game despite my inability to read print. Earthdawn is the campaign which I
currently GM and oh so rarely play. They provided an HTML based version of their
rules which has enabled me to continue to play despite my blindness. Two-other minor
systems also get my attention when the conditions are right. They are: L5R which is
a fantasy view of an oriental world. It's lengthier name is Legend of the Five
Rings. A companion game to this is "Seven Seas" which is a high fantasy
swash-buckler genre game. I have JAWS compatible dice roller's for all of these
games courtesy of Joshua Rosenthol. These will soon be available for download at
this site.
Which Campaigns?
Within each of these Rule Systems above, there are a fair number of separate (mostly)
campaigns. Due largely to my great fortunuosity, I have extremely creative friends.
They have made the efforts to make adjustments to their schedules and our games
such that I may be involved in these games despite my lack of vision. Some day there
may again be links for each and every one of these systems.
Enchanted Europe
AD&D 3rd Edition
Rob Ciccolini has put his talents to a modified historical Europe. Every other
Thursday our motley crew advances their strides against the darkness.
"Lord" Odo Dublois
Birthright
AD&D 3rd Edition
Gene Lejeune brings us this dark world which is a rare treasure to play. Thewrellan is my
elven archer who is well over his head in the politics of a world at war.
Emyrkyre
AD&D (2nd Edition)
Either Rob or Gene can and do GM this world. Unfortunately both have temporarily
shelved their efforts to run one of my all time favorite campaigns. Sinden is my
dark priest in disguise as an aged warrior. The city of Emyrkyre has long been under
siege both by the forces of dark evil and the inquisition forces of 'good.'
Woodlock/Northern Realms
AD&D (converting?)
Rob Ciccolini's campaign has run from the continent of Woodlock, to the dark underworld
and onward to his Norther Realms expedition. Many groups over many years have seen
glimpses of Rob's extensive world. Dral'n Belth - Friend Ender - is my Dwarven
Berserker who has overcome his dangerous episodes to nearly resolve the plight of his
people - until Death intervened. Now back from beyond death, he has lost the focus
which temporarily had been found. What lies ahead? Will we ever know?
Greyhawk
AD&D (converting?)
A game in which I run the world of Greyhawk as the war with Ioz descends upon the lands.
Returns Spring 2002?
Tisendy
Tisendy is a submerged caer from which I GM a group of friends on a fairly regular
schedule. The campaign began in '96 and has traversed a few players since its inception. I
invite you to explore the page on Tisendy. The players have provided some excellent
journals that give a feel for the flavor of the game.
The Crimson Dawn
Rob Ciccolini is the GM in the most powerful group I've attained. More than
their power, the players interact phenomonally to bring the group to outstanding levels of
enjoyment. E'mlik is my Obsidiman Warrior/Purifier who brings me much enjoyment on
those occasions of weakness when Rob agrees to run this group.
The Bringers
Gene leads his players on a tour of Barsaive in which the guantlett of Horrors is
common fare for the patterned Bringers. A new and more expansive enemy lies in sight
as Thera encounters the Bringers. My Windling Wizard, Jack Pulliferon, has joined
this powerful group and is rising to new heights of power even before he grasps the
meaning of all his work.
Lacking the names of the Campaigns in formal form, I have taken liberties:
In Honor of Tatsu
Brothers Hida seek the Great Destiny of Tsuo while Tsuno evolves from the ways of the
Crab into honor and glory while attempting to free his Brother from himself.
The Magistrates
Doroki Ikoma finds a world of deception and intrigue. He attempts to unwravel
the mystery of his Dead Lord before the mysteries unwravel the Empire
Destiny Again
L5R 2nd Edition
Tusuku Kitsuki has joined the destined to properly live the lives of those spirits given
to them. A great failing has twice before halted these spirits, can they succeed on
their third attempt? This excellent snowstorm derived campaign has had too few
opportunities to blossom but holds tremendous promise.
Unmerciful Sidhe
Bran O'Dougan is my one-time innkeeper and frequent pugilist who has been thrust from
his beloved isle and must build his wealth to regain the dream which was once his life.
His companions are an impressive lot and several courts have now found themselves
beneath his unassuming footfalls - yet still the goal is out of his reach. Oh but it
was nearly worth it for the punch he landed upon that upstart Avalon bastard who insulted
his Innismore!
The frightening fact is I have played and run more than twenty other campaigns and dozens more characters. Alas many of these fine expeditions into fantasy are now lost to the round filing cabinet as they took place before the age of computers...
